ORGANIZER

Prof. Sudipta Maiti (Fellow, Indian Academy of Sciences), the current President of Indian Biophysical Society (IBS), and the President of International Society for Optics Within Life Sciences, is the organizer of 17th OWLS Conference 2024 held at IIT Bombay, India.

The 17th meeting of the International Society on Optics Within Life Sciences was held in Mumbai, India from Nov. 18 to 21, 2024. The conference venue was the Victor Menezes Convention Center of IIT Bombay. The conference was co-organized by the Fluorescence Society (fluorescenceindia.org), which also ran a student workshop for hands-on learning before the actual conference. The conference was held in in-person mode only. It had about 400 registered participants from all parts of the world. In brief, it had 5 Plenary talks, 138 invited talks, 170 posters, and a few invited short talks and student presentations. The program of the meeting, and the abstracts can be found here (Appendix I).

New President for OWLS

Prof. Sudipta Maiti (Professor and Chair, Department of Chemical Sciences, TIFR Mumbai) appointed as the new President of International Society on Optics Within Life Sciences.

Conference Chair (16th Conference)

Prof. Juergen Czarske (Center BIOLAS, Biomedical Computational Laser Systems, Dresden) was the Conference Chair of 16th OWLS Conference 2022 held at TU Dresden, Dresden, Germany. Prof. Alexander Heisterkamp (Institute of Quantum Optics, Leibniz University Hannover) was the program committee chair.

General Secretary (2005-2009)

Prof. Stefan Hell (Director of the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen), Nobel Laureate 2014, was the General Secretary of OWLS Society from 2005 to 2009.

Prof. David Sampson (University of Western Australia, and University of Surrey, GB) was the Conference Chair of 15th OWLS Conference 2018 held at Rottnest Island.
